Visiting Newcastle Area for Golf

Our Area
The Newcastle District Golf Association lies just 1.5 hours travel time north of Sydney and is mainly a coastal area extending from Belmont in the south to Nelson Bay and Hawks Nest in the north and west as far as Toronto and Beresfield. We take in golf courses in the Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, Port Stephens and Mid-Coast Local Government Areas.

We invite you to enjoy some of the best value golf that NSW has to offer.  Many of the courses are of the highest quality and provide for a range of golfing abilities with very reasonable green fees.   There is a course to suit every golfer and facilities to make your day a memorable one.
All NDGA clubs welcome members of affiliated golf clubs, as they do social clubs and social golfers. Contact can be made with individual clubs by referring to the Our Clubs page on this website for details. You will be made most welcome at each and every club.

If you have a Golf Australia handicap, many of our clubs will welcome visitors into their regular competitions.
The District also runs an extensive program of open competitions. See the Event Calendar for details.

Want to Learn to Play Golf

Many programs are available to assist those interested in trying golf

Become a Member of a Club

You might currently be enjoying your golf casually with friends or play in a social club. But now you want to play more regularly, get a handicap and join a golf club.  While it’s great to play golf occasionally with friends or as part of a social club, becoming a member of an NDGA District golf club provides lots of additional benefits.

Currently, all clubs in the District enable membership without paying any nomination or joining fees. They increasingly provide a range of flexible membership options to suit the circumstances of different people who may have more or less time available for golf.

If you are ready to join a club it is easy - Firstly click on the Link -    Our Clubs    - and select one of our 16 Courses.  Then use the website link to contact the Club.

The advantages of being a member of a club
- Financially this is a sound decision. Most of the clubs in the Newcastle District Golf Association do not have nomination or joining fees. Instead you pay a yearly fee that often can be paid monthly. Being a member entitles you to play as often as you like. You only have to pay a nominal green fee to play practice rounds
- Use the club's practice facilities. Whether it is a driving range or chipping and putting green, you don't have to pay
- Obtain a Golf Australia Golf (GA) handicap
- Play in your club's regular competitions and championship events. Regular competitions are held several times a week.
- Being part of a club and meeting fellow golfers
- Most of our clubs have free junior instruction programs
- Receive reciprocal rights at other golf clubs around Australia and perhaps overseas - that are associated with your club. Usually this is a reduction in green fees or entry into their competitions.

But the best part of becoming the member of a local golf club is the camaraderie that membership provides.

The advantages of having a Golf Australia (GA) handicap
When you join a golf club you receive a Golf Australia (GA) handicap. This is where you are registered with Golf Australia and you are granted your own registered handicap. Once you have an official handicap you can:
- Play in your club's regular competitions
- Play in other NDGA club's regular competitions (depending on availability)
- Play in NDGA interclub competitions
- Play in other club's open competitions around Australia
- View your handicap online via Golf Link http://www.golflink.com.au/   or via numerous Apps
